The Minnesota River carves a deep valley across this landscape, defining the borders between Redwood, Renville, and Yellow Medicine counties. To the north of the river, the terrain is dotted with several small glacial basins, including Iverson Lake, Long Lake, and Nordeen Slough. The rural character of this region is reflected in the numerous small family and township burial grounds scattered across the agricultural sections, such as the Koldorn Family Cem and the Swedes Forest Township Cem. Smaller tributaries like Boiling Spring Cr and Echo Cr drain the surrounding fields into the main river channel, while an extensive grid of section-line roads, including Co Rd 17 and 410th St, provides access to the productive prairie land that surrounds the river bluffs.
