Uncompahgre National Forest encompasses this dramatic high-country landscape, where deep drainages like Dominguez Canyon carve through the plateau. The complex hydrology of the region is defined by the systems of Big Dominguez Cr and Little Dominguez Cr, which serve as the primary conduits through the uplifted terrain. A network of primitive paths, including the Smith Point Trl and Big Dominguez Trl, provides the only access into the remote reaches of Dominguez Ridge and Black Point.
