About this map

Lake Ontario borders the northern edge of this Orleans County landscape, where fruit orchards and rural farmsteads meet the shoreline at Lomond Shore and Oak Orchard Beach. The terrain is defined by the steady southward rise toward the Erie Canal, which cuts through the southern tier near Hulberton and Brockville. Between the lake and the canal, a network of historic rural schools, such as School No 11 and School No 13, serves the dispersed farming community.
