Siskiyou National Forest covers much of this mid-1980s landscape, where steep elevations and narrow drainages define the area south of South Fork Deer Creek. The map documents a geography of industry and resource management, evidenced by the Paradise Mine No 1, Paradise Mine No 2, and the Boswell Mine to the southwest. Along Sucker Creek, the presence of a Gaging Station and the Cedar FS Station reflects the active monitoring of this watershed. Recreational and logistical access is concentrated near Grayback Campground and the small settlement at Cedar Flat. High peaks such as Kerby Peak and Squaw Mountain dominate the horizon, while a network of 4wd tracks and trails provides the only passage through the dense interior, connecting the various Quarry sites and Borrow Pit locations used for local maintenance.
