Mohave City and the Fort Mohave Indian Reservation border the Colorado River at a time when industrial mining and river navigation still shaped this desert corridor. This 1947 survey captures the transportation network linking the Union Pacific and Santa Fe railroads through the high-desert valleys. Evidence of the region’s mineral wealth is everywhere, from the Turquoise Mine and Copper World Mine in the western ranges to the gold-mining districts of Oatman, Goldroad, and Chloride.

Infrastructure transitions are visible at Davis Dam and the Searchlight Ferry, while the Lake Mead National Recreational Area begins its expansion north. The map documents numerous isolated springs and wells, such as Stump Spring and Mexican Well, which were critical for ranching and travel between the Kingston Range and the Sacramento Valley. Small railroad sidings like Calada and Nipton mark the path of the tracks through the arid Ivanpah Valley.
