About this map

The San Juan River corridor in the late 1920s defines the northern reach of this desert survey, where the settlements of Fruitland and Kirtland stand as primary agricultural hubs. Much of the remaining landscape is occupied by the Navajo Indian Reservation, a vast expanse marked by a network of vital commercial outposts including the Burnham Trading Post, Newcomb Trading Post, and the Bisti Trading Post. These locations, along with the Nava PO, served as the essential nodes for communication and trade in an era before modern highway expansion.
