The San Luis Mountains rise sharply across the international border, forming a rugged backdrop for the sparse high-desert settlements of Hidalgo Co in southwestern New Mexico. This 2013 survey documents the arid frontier landscape where the United States and Mexico meet, centered on the drainage of Lang Canyon. Human presence in this isolated corridor is marked by the small settlements of Garcia and Bramlett, located just north of the boundary line between the United States and Mexico.
