Lonerock sits at the northern edge of a landscape defined by deep drainages and upland grasslands where Gilliam, Morrow, and Wheeler counties converge. The terrain is a complex network of canyons, including Pullen Canyon and Little Dutch Canyon, which channel seasonal water toward the lower elevations. Much of the southern portion is managed as part of the Umatilla National Forest, reflecting the transition from open grazing land to timbered national forest territory.
