Lewis Ranch and the surrounding ranchlands of Laramie County define this high plains landscape at the start of the 1990s. The area is characterized by an extensive network of irrigation infrastructure, including the Carey Horse Creek Ditch No 5 and several other numbered ditches that divert water from Horse Creek. This sophisticated water management system supported the regional cattle industry and local homesteads like Nimmo and Shelton.
