Big Valley dominates the central landscape of this late-1970s survey, where the border between Utah and Arizona meets the boundary of Washington and Mohave counties. The terrain is defined by a network of drainage systems including Lizard Wash, Mokaac Wash, and Atkinville Wash, which converge as they move through the valley floor. Water management is a primary feature of this arid environment, evidenced by several strategically placed improvements such as the State Line Reservoir, Mokaac Reservoir, and the North Tank.

Settlement is sparse, limited to locations like Gardner Well and Pierce, while historical land use is marked by a Prospect and scattered Corral sites. The elevation rises sharply in the south toward the high ground of Mokaac Mountain and its distinctive Lizard Point. A system of trails and jeep trails provides the only access through this complex landscape of draws and canyons, such as Quail Canyon, connecting remote springs like Mokaac Spring and Seep Spring.
