1997 Map of Long Peak

USGS Topo · Published 2001

About this map

Jack Paddock Ranch lies near the southern edge of this montane landscape, where the water-management infrastructure of the Paddock Ditch and Anderson Ditch suggests the historical importance of irrigation in these high valleys. This 1997 revision captures a transition from the managed drainage basins of Calvert Creek and Fishtrap Creek in the south toward the high, protected peaks of the Anaconda Pintler Wilderness to the north. The terrain is defined by a series of prominent summits including Long Peak, Needle Peak, and Tower Peak, which overlook the various branches of the Middle Fork La Marche Creek. Within the Beaverhead National Forest, the map traces the intersection of rugged alpine geography and the resource-driven settlement patterns found in the lower gulches, such as Hollow Gulch and Thompson Gulch.
