Gifford Pinchot National Forest dominates this section of the Cascade Range in Skamania County, defined by its complex volcanic geography and high-elevation drainage systems. The landscape is anchored by significant peaks including Lookout Mtn, Little Lookout Mtn, and the distinctive West Crater, while the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail winds through the eastern portion of the quadrangle. This 2020 survey reveals a dense network of watercourses that feed into larger regional systems, such as the Washougal River and the E Fork Lewis River. Notable landmarks for navigation and local history include Cougar Rock, Mowich Butte, and Trout Creek Hill. Smaller alpine water bodies like Zig Zag Lake and Rock Cr Lake are tucked into the high terrain, connected by a web of creeks including Canyon Cr, Layout Cr, and Prospector Cr.
