Flint Butte and Ashcroft Butte rise as prominent landmarks above the drainages of Harding County in this high-plains landscape. The area is defined by an intricate network of seasonal watercourses, including the curiously named Big Nasty Cr, which winds through the central portion of the quadrangle. Other significant waterways such as Coal Bank Cr, Horse Cr, and Lems Cr carve through the terrain, illustrating the natural drainage patterns of this northern South Dakota region.
