Lyman and Fremont occupy the high desert plains of Wayne County, where the agricultural landscape is defined by an intricate network of irrigation. The Fremont-Loa Ditch and High Line Ditch channel water from the Fremont River to sustain these rural communities. To the east, the terrain rises sharply into the Fishlake National Forest, culminating at the massive plateau of Thousand Lake Mtn. This area contains numerous high-elevation water sources including Blind Lake, Mill Meadow Reservoir, and Tidwell Spring. The map documents a topography of carved valleys and flat benches such as Rabbit Valley, Tidwell Valley, and Hector Hollow. Genealogists will find the Lyman Cem located just west of the town center, while local historians can trace the early road network including State Rte 72 and several forest boundary routes that connected these mountain pastures and meadows.
