Frontier Town and Forest Heights sit along the winding path of US Hwy 12 W as it traverses the high country of the Helena National Forest. This section of the Rocky Mountains is defined by the Continental Divide, which zigzags through the center of the map, separating the drainage basins of the Boulder Mountains. The landscape is a network of steep drainages including Sawmill Gulch, Latham Gulch, and Bear Gulch, many of which feed into named waterways like MacDonald Cr and Tenmile Cr.
