Mad River Buttes and the surrounding high country of the Six Rivers National Forest define this landscape in eastern Humboldt County. The area is characterized by high ridges such as Graham Ridge and McAlvey Ridge that separate numerous drainages feeding into the Mad River, which makes a significant turn at Big Bend. Significant water features include Snow Camp Lake and Jannigan Pond, alongside various creeks like Goodman Prairie Cr and Humbug Cr. Remote access is provided through a network of forest roads including Maple Creek Rd and Jack Shaw Rd. Notable summits such as Snow Camp Mtn and Mt Andy serve as landmarks for navigation across this complex terrain of the northern Coast Ranges.
