Mann Lake dominates the central basin of this high-desert landscape in southeastern Oregon, situated at the eastern base of Steens Mtn. The terrain is defined by a series of steep drainages and canyons, including Stonehouse Canyon and the headwaters of Deep Cr, Stonehouse Cr, and Summit Cr. High-elevation grazing areas like Sullivan Meadows and Paddle Meadows are interspersed with seasonal water sources such as Strode Springs, Barrel Springs, and Big Springs. A particularly distinctive geological feature, Hole in the Ground, lies west of the lake. Transport across this sparsely settled region is facilitated by the north-south Fields-Denio Rd, providing a vital connection through the arid valley floor, while smaller tracks like Mann Creek Ln and Artesian Well Rd reach into the surrounding foothills and canyons.
