Cloverport sits at the northern edge of this mid-century survey, tucked into the sharp bend of the Ohio River where the Louisville and Nashville railroad tracks follow the riverbank. This riverfront landscape transitions quickly into a network of dissected ridges and winding stream valleys. Small rural settlements like Mattingly and Balltown are centered around numerous country churches and family cemeteries, suggesting a landscape deeply rooted in local kinship.

Evidence of historical land use is visible in the naming of Iron Ore Hill, where the Iron Ore Hill Ch stands today, and the presence of a Quarry near the river. The southern portion of the sheet is defined by the complex drainage of Clover Creek and its many tributaries, such as Little Beech Fork and Caney Fork. These watercourses dictated the placement of early infrastructure, including the New Clover Creek Ch and several one-room school sites like Flood Sch.
