Goose Lake dominates the eastern expanse of this Modoc County landscape, its broad waters and shifting shoreline meeting the high desert terrain of northeastern California. Along the western edge of the lake, the boundary of the Modoc National Forest rises into more elevated territory, where water management is visible through features like Ake Reservoir and the Mc Ginty Reservoir. The topography is defined by the sharp transition from the lake basin to the surrounding uplands, most notably at McGinty Point. A network of rural corridors, including W Side Road and Co Road 48, provides access to these isolated stretches of forest and shoreline. In the south, the drainage of Davis Cr and the track of Lakeshore Rd trace the lower elevations of the basin, illustrating the sparse but vital infrastructure connecting these remote watersheds.
