Goose Lake dominates this northern California landscape, its broad expanse and changing shoreline defining the transition between the high desert and the western forest edge. Along the western shore, the steep slopes of the Modoc National Forest rise abruptly from the water, where West Side Road and South Main follow the contours of the terrain. The map captures the geography of McGinty Point, a prominent landform projecting into the lake, as well as the drainage of Davis Cr to the south. This area is characterized by large agricultural and ranching plots, indicated by the network of rural routes such as Dirt Ranch Rd and Lakeshore Rd. The presence of these roads, including Co Rd 48, suggests a long history of land management and movement along the lake’s edge in Modoc County.
