Bois Blanc Island is defined by its series of interior freshwater lakes and its position within Lake Huron, as captured during a 1964 field check and subsequent 1976 photoinspection. The island's geography features prominent coastal landmarks such as Lighthouse Point and Lafayette Point, while the interior is largely occupied by the Mackinaw State Forest. Local history is anchored by the McRae Cem near the shoreline of Mc Rae Bay.
