About this map

Greenwood Furnace and the surrounding iron-and-mill landscape of Huntingdon County appear here in a transition period just after the Great War. This military progressive map, compiled by Brig. Gen. Theo. A. Bingham, details the rural infrastructure of central Pennsylvania before the expansion of the modern highway system. The terrain is defined by the massive ridges of Tussey Mountain and Jacks Mountain, which channel settlement into narrow valleys where numerous water-powered sites like Cornpropst Mills, Neffs Mills, and Pine Grove Mills operated.
