The international border between Franklin County, Maine, and Quebec, Canada, carves a jagged path through this high-altitude landscape. Defined by the watershed divide, the boundary line separates the headwaters of the Kennebec and Saint Lawrence River basins. On the American side, the peaks of Merrill Mtn, Van Dyke Mtn, and Caribou Mtn rise sharply above drainage systems like Kibby Stream and Bear Brook. To the south, Mt Pisgah overlooks the wetlands of Lower Nathan Bog.
