Moenkopi Plateau and the surrounding high desert terrain dominate this recent survey of Coconino County. The landscape is defined by deep geological incisions, most notably the winding paths of Coal Mine Canyon, Begashibito Canyon, and Ha Ho No Geh Canyon which converge toward the Moenkopi Wash in the southeast. These dramatic landforms provide a stark contrast to the flatter expanse of Mid Mesa to the north.

Evidence of historical movement and water access across this arid region is preserved in the path of the Navajo Trl and the location of vital water sources like Juanita Begay Spring, Lechee Da Si Kaid Spring, and the seasonally variable Greasewood Lake. High points like Lice Hill serve as landmarks in a territory mapped by the U.S. Geological Survey to show the intricate network of canyons and plateaus characteristic of northern Arizona.
