The high plains of Hartley County are bisected by a long diagonal of U.S. Route 54, which serves as the primary artery through this wide-open landscape of the Texas Panhandle. The terrain is defined by the ephemeral drainage of Punta de Agua Cr, which carves a shallow, meandering path across the southern half of the quadrangle. Aside from the highway, the area is serviced by a sparse network of gravel and dirt routes, including Co Rd 13, Co Rd N, and Brown Rd. These roads suggest a landscape of large-scale ranching and agriculture, where fence lines and sections are more prominent than any town center. The map captures a quintessential stretch of the Llano Estacado, where water is scarce and the horizon is shaped primarily by the engineering of transportation corridors.
