The San Juan River defines the lower reaches of this high-desert landscape, carving a wide valley through the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. The topography is dominated by dramatic elevation changes, notably the rise of Mikes Mesa and the deep incisions of Mikes Canyon and its East Fork. These geological formations, along with the Red Rock Plateau and the Clay Hills, reveal the complex drainage patterns feeding into the main river channel, including Piute Farms Wash and Rockhouse Gulch.
