Paint Rock Cem sits in the northern reaches of this Concho County landscape, overlooking a terrain defined by the dendritic drainage patterns of several intermittent stream systems. The geography is dominated by the winding course of Kickapoo Cr, which is joined by Middle Kickapoo Cr and E Kickapoo Cr as they move through the ranching country of West Texas. This 2012 survey illustrates the sparse, rural infrastructure of the region, where connectivity is maintained through a network of county roads and more substantial routes like Ranch Road 765 and Fm-765. The land between Hog Cr and Duck Cr reveals a pastoral layout characteristic of this part of the state, with large parcels and private tracts such as Private Road 1743 serving the isolated homesteads and ranching operations that have shaped the local economy for generations.
