The high desert terrain of Harney County is defined by the sharp rise of Battle Mtn and the broad plateau of Moffit Table. This area, much of which is protected by the Malheur National Forest, shows a landscape shaped by water management and natural springs. The Malheur River cuts through the territory, supported by irrigation infrastructure like Johnson Ditch and Robbins Ditch, which redirect flow across the arid flats. Numerous water sources such as Acton Spring, Sunshine Spring, and Gully Spring appear as critical landmarks for range management and wildlife.
