About this map

Silver Ridge and the small settlement of Monarda anchor this central Aroostook County landscape along the corridor of Silver Ridge Rd. The area is defined by its complex network of waterways, where Molunkus Stream and Macwahoc Stream drain a terrain of low ridges and extensive wetlands. In the southern portion of the sheet, the Silver Ridge Cem provides a focal point for genealogical interest near the junction with Spaulding Brook. The presence of numerous brooks like Gulliver Brook and Juniper Brook, alongside larger bodies of water such as Plunkett Pond and Lower Macwahoc Lake, illustrates the traditional importance of water resources to the local ecology and historical land use. Logging roads and local connectors like Woodbridge Corner Rd and Extract Rd spiderweb through the timberlands, showing the continued integration of forestry and remote settlement in this part of Maine.
