The West Branch Susquehanna River carves through this landscape, separating the urban centers of Williamsport and South Williamsport from the northern slopes of Bald Eagle Mountain. To the east, the river is joined by Loyalsock Creek near Montoursville, where the Williamsport Regional Airport occupies the flat river terrace. The terrain transitions from dense valley settlements to the steep ridges of North White Deer Ridge and the White Deer Valley to the south.
