Goeicoechea Warm Springs provides a rare water source in this high-elevation landscape within the eastern reaches of the Ruby Mountains. The map reveals a high-desert environment defined by the transition between the broad Newark Valley and the steep elevations of Alligator Ridge. The logistical backbone of the area is represented by White Pine Co Road 1 and White Pine Co Road 4, which facilitate movement through the rugged gaps of Mooney Basin Summit and Martin Canyon. This 2018 survey by the U.S. Geological Survey illustrates the spatial relationship between the basin floor and the surrounding peaks, capturing the remote nature of the Mooney Basin as it appeared in the early 21st century.
