Moran Ranch and its private Landing Strip sit at the center of this Texas Panhandle landscape, where the survey lines of the Hartley Co and Moore Co boundary intersect the high plains. The terrain is defined by a series of depressions and ephemeral basins, characteristic of this cattle-and-oil country in the early 1960s. Industrial infrastructure is visible through the prominent Pipeline cutting diagonally across the quadrangle, alongside several isolated Gas Wells and generic Wells. This 1963 study, published by the Texas Water Development Board and the USGS, documents a sparsely populated ranching territory where water management and energy extraction were the primary drivers of land use.
