Avoca Island and the complex wetlands of the Louisiana coast define this area southeast of Morgan City. The landscape is a lattice of natural and engineered watercourses, most notably the Intracoastal Waterway which cuts across the northern reaches near Bayou Black. This 2020 record illustrates the intricate drainage patterns of the coastal marsh, where major arteries like Turtle Bayou and Bayou Penchant snake through the low-lying terrain of Terrebonne Parish. The interface between St. Mary Parish and Terrebonne Parish is marked along the northwestern corner, following the path of Bayou Chene. This sheet is particularly useful for understanding the modern hydraulic environment, including the numerous smaller channels like Piquant Bayou and Partridge Bayou that feed into the larger bayou systems.
