Bears Den Oil and Gas Field sits in the northeast corner of this Liberty County landscape, marking the intersection of natural resource extraction and high-plains topography. The terrain is defined by dramatic elevations and coulees, including Mt Lebanon and East Butte to the north, and McGuire Hill to the south. A sparse network of rural roads, such as Hill School Rd and Windy Ridge Rd, connects these isolated landmarks. Drainage patterns are established by Sage Cr, Little Sage Cr, and the long reach of Government Cr, which winds through the center of the survey. The presence of Devils Chimney and Bear Tooth underscores the characteristic geologic features of this portion of Montana, where named coulees like Scotch Coulee, McTosh Coulee, and Snoose Coulee carve through the plains.
