The Oklahoma-Arkansas border cuts vertically through this high-elevation landscape, where the ridges of the Ouachita Mountains dictate the path of every road and creek. The Ouachita National Forest dominates the terrain, encompassing the protected Black Fork Mountain Wilderness to the north and the Upper Kiamichi River Wilderness in the southwest. Between these protected zones, Rich Mountain stands as a prominent physical barrier, traversed by the winding Skyline Dr and the Ouachita National Recreation Trail.
