Mullan and the small settlement of Stull sit at the northern edge of this high-country landscape, where the S Fork Coeur d'Alene River valley serves as a primary corridor for settlement and industry. The area is defined by its deep mining history, evidenced by the cluster of cemeteries including the Miners Union Cem, IOOF Cem, and Mountain View Cem. South of the valley, the terrain rises sharply into the Saint Joe Mountains, marked by high summits like Stevens Peak and Wonderful Peak. The map highlights a network of forest access routes and specialized paths such as the Champion Mine OHV and W Gold Hill OHV, which trace the legacy of resource extraction across the Saint Joe Divide. These trails, along with Moon Pass, provide passage between the drainage of the Coeur d'Alene and the headwaters of the N Fork Saint Joe River.
