Murphy and the northwestern edge of Aurora anchor this section of Hamilton County, where the agricultural landscape is defined by the section-line grid of the Public Land Survey System. The terrain is shaped by the meandering courses of the Big Blue River in the north and Lincoln Cr to the south, which cut through the level plains of the Platte River valley. Local history is preserved in several rural burial sites, including Richland Cem, Siloa Cem, and the Aurora Cem located on the edge of the county seat. This 2017 survey reflects a modern township structure where historical rural school sites have largely given way to centralized farming operations, yet the original road network, including named routes like Rodabaugh Rd and Terry Rd, continues to follow the paths established by early settlers.
