Nashville serves as the focal point of this southwestern Arkansas study, where the Howard County Courthouse stands at the center of a well-defined street grid. The town is bounded by the winding course of Mine Creek to the east and south, while Dodson Creek and Temperanceville Creek drain the surrounding landscape. To the north, Lake Nickels sits near the junction of several rural routes including State Hwy 980.

The landscape outside the city limits transitions into a network of smaller communities and named drainages. Bingen and North Bingen are situated to the northeast along the upper reaches of Cary Creek, while the settlement of Tokio occupies the far northeastern corner of the map. Genealogists and local historians can trace family plots at the Nashville Cem or the more remote Cummings Cem located near Caney Creek in the southeastern portion of the quadrangle.
