Lake Powell dominates the eastern half of this high-desert landscape, where the rising water of the reservoir fills a complex network of submerged sandstone drainages. The Glen Canyon National Recreation Area protects this dramatic meeting of water and stone, featuring world-renowned natural landmarks such as Reflection Canyon and the secluded Hidden Passage Canyon. To the west, the terrain rises sharply toward Fiftymile Point, revealing a landscape defined by deep incisions like Cottonwood Canyon and Llewellyn Gulch.
