Nestoria and Tioga stand as the primary points of settlement in this northern Michigan landscape, where the Sturgeon River and its tributary, the Tioga River, define the local drainage. The area is characterized by a high density of water features and elevation drops, including Tioga Falls, Upper Sturgeon Falls, and North Namie Falls. Transportation and recreation corridors intersect here, notably the North Country National Scenic Trail and the Up8 Trl, which follow the general path of Old US Hwy 41.
