Ninemile Hill rises above the high desert floor of Hidalgo County in this 2013 topographic study. The landscape is defined by the expansive Lordsburg Mesa and the wide passage of Lordsburg Draw to the south. This arid environment is marked by a complex network of man-made water catchments, such as House Pasture Tank, Odell Tank, and Horseshoe Tank, which are vital landmarks in this ranching country. Us-70 E cuts diagonally across the terrain, providing the primary corridor through the region, while secondary routes like CO Road A024 and a020 provide access to the remote draws and canyons. The presence of these named tanks and canyons, including Tenmile Canyon, illustrates the critical importance of water management and geography in the New Mexico backcountry.
