About this map

Nelson Island occupies the central portion of this survey, where the rugged elevations of Nealruk Mtn overlook the Bering Sea coastline. The settlement of Nightmute sits on the eastern edge of the quadrangle, connected to the surrounding wetlands and tundra by the winding courses of the Alakuchak River and the N Fork Tununak River. This landscape is defined by the transition from upland peaks to the tidal waters of Toksook Bay and Kangirlvar Bay. Local infrastructure is concentrated near the coast, where Airport Road and Canaar Road serve the vicinity of the Toksook Bay Airport. This 2020 edition provides a clear record of the modern geography of the region, including the location of the Toksook Bay Native Cem and the small road network such as Landfill Road that supports this remote community.
