Oak Grove sits at the heart of this landscape along the border of Jefferson and Tuscaloosa counties, where the topography is defined by a dense network of creek branches and hollows. The area north of the Mud Creek drainage is characterized by scattered settlements and significant river features, most notably the wide curve of Bankhead Lake and the dramatic landform known as The Narrows. Many of the names here, such as Vines Mill and Sextons Bend, reflect the early family-based development of these valley communities near Toadvine.
