Osborn and Visage sit at the heart of this mid-1930s survey, conducted by the Tennessee Valley Authority and the U.S. Geological Survey. The mountain landscape of Towns County is deeply rural, defined by a network of community institutions such as Macedonia Ch, Macedonia Sch, and Lower Hightower Sch that served families along the Hiwassee River. The terrain is marked by numerous named peaks like Bell Mtn and Eagle Mtn, while the Nantahala National Forest covers much of the high ground toward the North Carolina border.
