Royston Hills dominate the central topography of this Great Basin landscape, providing a rugged vertical contrast to the surrounding basins. To the east, the broad expanse of Ione Valley is drained by the prominent Ione Wash, while the southwestern corner of the sheet transitions into the Cirac Valley. This area sits along the remote boundary between Nye County and Esmeralda County, a region defined by its wide alluvial fans and high-desert drainage patterns. The path of NV-89 cuts through the northeast, following the natural contours of the valley floor. The map illustrates a classic Nevada basin-and-range structure, where desert washes and mountain foothills meet at the intersection of several township and range blocks, including t7n r39e and t7n r40e.
