About this map

The Camino Del Diablo cuts a historic path through this borderland landscape, tracing the southern edge of the Cabeza Prieta Wilderness along the international boundary between Arizona and Sonora. This late twentieth-century data reflects a territory defined by conservation and military utility, where the Barry M Goldwater Air Force Range meets the Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge. The terrain transitions from the rocky elevations of the Sierra Pinta and the carved depths of Paradise Canyon to the soft reaches of the Pinta Sands. To the south, the map captures the volcanic character of the Pinacate Valley and the dry expanse of the Desierto de Altar where they spill across the border from Mexico.
