Fortymile Desert and the White Plains dominate this portion of the Great Basin, where the desert floor meets the rising elevations of the Hot Springs Mountains in the south. The settlement of Parran and the rail-aligned location of Huxley sit along the primary transport corridor on the eastern edge of the quadrangle, bordering the vast depression of the Carson Sink.
