Abra and Drake anchor this 2012 survey of the high desert landscape north of Prescott, where the confluence of several significant washes defines the terrain. The hydrological network of Big Chino Wash and Williamson Valley Wash meets near the southern boundary, feeding toward the Verde River. This is a landscape where water management is paramount, evidenced by the numerous named tanks such as Peavine Tank, Railroad Tank, and Tovera Tank scattered across the range. Local history is preserved at the Puntenney Cem in the northeast, situated near the dramatic cuts of Limestone Canyon. Significant landmarks like Rock Butte rise above the network of forest roads and the diagonal route of Old Hwy 89, illustrating the transition from traditional ranching and rail infrastructure to modern residential developments.
