St Joe Wild and Scenic River defines the northeast corner of this remote mountain landscape in the St Joe National Forest. This 1980s provisional study documents a high-elevation environment dominated by a complex network of ridges and peaks, including Peggy Peak, Granite Peak, and Bad Bear Peak. The drainage patterns are clearly defined by numerous named waterways such as Mosquito Creek, Fly Creek, and Bad Bear Creek, which feed into the primary river system.

Evidence of historical backcountry transit is visible through the extensive Pack Trail networks that follow the contours of Copper Ridge and connect high points like Beaver Peak. While mostly uninhabited, the presence of Elk Prairie in the south provides a rare open plateau among the steep drainages. This map is a record of the wilderness as it was managed in the late 20th century, prior to modern digital updates, showing the preserved character of Shoshone County's interior.
