Pellston and the surrounding Emmet County landscape are defined by the convergence of the W Br Maple River and E Br Maple River, which join to form the main Maple River. This 2019 survey illustrates the modern layout of the village, including its aviation gateway at the Pellston Regional Airport of Emmet County and the northern stretch of the N Western State Trail following the old rail corridor. Genealogists will find several burial grounds documented, from the McKinley Township Cem and Saint Clement Catholic Cem near the town center to the more outlying Ayr Cem and Maple River Cem. The smaller settlement of Van remains situated north of the airport along Van Rd, marking a quiet intersection of rural roads and the Van Cr drainage.
